Police in Dallas, Texas, have arrested several individuals linked to a New Year’s Eve shooting spree that included gunfire directed from an interstate bridge and a separate road-rage attack in which a family’s vehicle was targeted on a crowded highway.
Video that circulated on social media showing people firing weapons from the Margaret McDermott Bridge over Interstate 30 prompted an extensive investigation by local police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and federal prosecutors. Investigators recovered more than 100 shell casings at the bridge location.
Officers identified and took into custody two men, ages 20 and 18, believed to be among those seen firing weapons in the bridge footage. They were charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm. In a related part of the probe, a 25-year-old man was linked to a separate incident from November in which police say he shot at a vehicle carrying a family; charges in that case include multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Law enforcement recovered several firearms, including rifles matching those seen in the viral bridge video, during a search executed with assistance from ATF agents. One suspect has since been released on bond, while the others remain held under immigration detainers.
Police officials stressed the danger posed by gunfire in heavy traffic and said investigations are ongoing to identify any additional suspects and fully understand the circumstances surrounding both the bridge shooting and the family road-rage attack.
