A manhunt is underway in Chicago after a gunman allegedly fired at U.S. Border Patrol agents during an immigration enforcement operation in the city’s Little Village neighborhood. According to federal officials, the shooter drove a black Jeep and made multiple shots toward agents, who were conducting a multi-agency raid Saturday afternoon.
No agents were injured in the incident, but authorities report bricks and a paint can were also thrown at federal vehicles amid a growing crowd that clashed with law enforcement. The suspect and vehicle remain at large, prompting a large-scale search involving Chicago police, Homeland Security, and other federal law-enforcement units.
This incident comes amid a months-long immigration crackdown in the region known as “Operation Midway Blitz,” which has already resulted in thousands of arrests and heightened tensions between federal agencies and community leaders.
