Robert Steven DeCesare, 59, died after a shooter opened fire at Sky Meadow Country Club during a wedding event. DeCesare was eating dinner with his wife and daughter when the violence erupted.
His mother, Evie O’Rourke, says DeCesare “stepped between” the gunman and his loved ones, shielding them from harm. He didn’t try to flee, but instead faced toward the shooter — an act she says came from his instinct to protect.
Authorities have arrested 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau on a charge of second-degree murder. DeCesare’s family members described him as loving, devoted, and preparing to watch his daughter’s wedding in about six weeks.
