Even after a crushing defeat in last year’s presidential race, Kamala Harris maintains that she still holds a leadership role within the Democratic Party. As part of her book tour promoting 107 Days, Harris referenced her near-win and presidential nomination as justification for her enduring relevance.
Yet, multiple party insiders and longtime allies privately warn her influence is fading. They point to mixed reactions about her memoir—some view it as overly critical of former President Biden and unhelpful in unifying Democrats. Her directional decisions, public posture, and tone have prompted murmurs that the party should begin pivoting toward new faces.
While she stopped short of declaring a future campaign for 2028, Harris signaled she is not exiting the stage anytime soon—and sees herself as still integral to the party’s path forward.
