A collegiate athlete is speaking out against the Biden administration, accusing them of prioritizing transgender athletes’ rights over those of female athletes. Harvard swimmer Abby Carr criticized the administration’s stance, stating that they are using the transgender sports debate as their civil rights moment while discriminating against women.
Carr recounted her own experience competing against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas from the University of Pennsylvania in 2022, noting Thomas’ dominant performance due to a perceived biological advantage. Carr expressed regret for staying silent at the time and emphasized that the issue should be approached scientifically and rationally without political polarization.
The inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports has become a divisive topic, with Republicans generally supporting the exclusion of transgender athletes and Democrats, including the White House, advocating for athletes to compete based on their gender identity. The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, passed by the House in April, aimed to prevent biological males from competing as transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports.
The Biden administration’s perspective on the matter has been evident in statements made by Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who labeled it “dangerous” to question the safety of women competing with biological males. During Pride Month, the administration displayed a banner on the South Lawn celebrating transgender, non-binary, and intersex Americans, which drew criticism from Carr and others who believe women’s sports are not being adequately protected.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment, but no response was received.
