An American tourist, aged 18, has been apprehended in Paris on suspicion of fatally hurling her newborn infant from a hotel window. In the early hours of February 24, the tragic incident transpired at the Ibis Styles hotel in the 20th arrondissement, near Place de la Nation.
Around 6 a.m., witnesses reported hearing screams and notified the authorities. The infant was found on the street below the second-floor room by emergency responders, still attached to the umbilical cord and wrapped in a sheet. The infant did not survive, despite being transported to Robert Debré Hospital.
The young woman, who was described as a student traveling with a group of American peers on a study tour, was apprehended after receiving medical treatment. Parisian prosecutors have initiated an inquiry into the “homicide of a minor under 15,” with an eye toward pregnancy denial, a psychological condition in which a woman is either unaware of or unable to acknowledge her pregnancy.
The incident elicited astonishment and sorrow from local residents and hotel guests, with many unable to understand the circumstances that resulted in the newborn’s death. Authorities are endeavoring to ascertain the precise sequence of events that led to this tragic incident as the investigation continues.
