When a 6-year-old girl and her parents accidentally rolled a basketball onto the North Carolina homeowner’s property on Tuesday night, the guy reportedly began firing his gun at the family.
According to WSOC-TV’s reporting, at around 8 o’clock at night, a man in Gaston County became enraged at a bouncing ball and opened fire on a family, wounding Kinsley White, her mother Ashley Hilderbrand, and her father William White.
William White was gravely harmed while defending his daughter.
The station’s sources claim that the alleged gunman and a group of children were playing basketball when the ball rebounded into his yard.
Robert Louis Singletary, the alleged shooter, allegedly grew upset and opened fire on a neighbor as he ran down the street.
According to WSOC-TV’s reporting, the suspect came back and fired shots at the family, leaving the daughter with wounds so serious that she needed stitches.
The cops said her dad was hurt also and was still in the hospital on Wednesday.
The father of two was shot in the back after reportedly trying to draw attention to himself in order to shield his children from harm.
Kinsley told the police, “We don’t even know the man,” before asking, “Why did you shoot my daddy and me?” Why did someone shoot a father of a child?
Hilderbrand, who was wounded in the leg, is reportedly recovering at home with her kid.
Multiple eyewitnesses reported hearing gunfire into the air from Singletary, who reportedly ran out of ammo before he stopped firing.
When asked by the station what happened, Hilderbrand replied, “He looked at my husband and my daughter and said, ‘I’m going to kill you.'”
He faces four counts of attempted murder in the first degree, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill or cause serious injury, and one count of possession of a pistol by a felon, according to the police in Gaston County, North Carolina.
Information leading to the arrest of the suspect is being rewarded with $1,000 by the department.
In a statement, Police Chief Stephen Zill said, “I want to say to the people of Gaston County — this sort of violence will not stand,” and he also mentioned that the US Marshals Service was helping in the search for Singletary.
