House Republicans’ New Push for FBI Funding Cut

The Republican leadership in the House has taken a dramatic step that is sure to resonate through the corridors of power: they want to cut the FBI’s budget by a whopping $1 billion. This brazen defiance occurs as lawmakers keep digging into the FBI’s supposed bias towards Republicans. Despite Democratic resistance, the bill was approved by the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies. This is a monument to the Republicans’ enduring tenacity. However, there is still a long way to go, as the bill faces significant opposition in the Senate and is met with mixed reactions from the White House. If all the stars align and this bold proposal becomes law, it will deal a severe blow, cutting FBI funding by around 9 percent.

However, this far-reaching plan doesn’t merely aim to reduce the FBI’s budget. By cutting off funding to the bureau’s office of diversity and inclusion, it goes farther in its challenge to the established quo. In a sweeping move, the budget measure would also defund the diversity offices of the many other federal agencies that it covers, including the Department of Commerce and the Department of Justice.

Unfortunately, the Justice Department would not be spared. Its budget would take a $2 billion hit, while the Commerce Department’s discretionary budget would be reduced by $1.4 billion. Distinguished Texas lawmaker Kay Granger, who chairs the Appropriations Committee, has been a staunch advocate for this bold legislation, saying that it strengthens our immigration courts and holds the Department of Justice accountable. Furthermore, it lends a helping hand to local law enforcement and provides them with essential tools to combat the flood of illegal substances that has overtaken our great nation.

Legislators have worked to protect whistleblowers from retaliation during this turbulent event. A hidden provision in the law would deduct pay from federal employees who violate these heroes’ First Amendment rights in the name of retaliation. Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, who pushed hard for provision in the DOJ funding bill to shield FBI whistleblowers from retribution, is largely responsible for the legislation’s passage. The wages of any authorities found guilty of meting out revenge against these brave individuals could be withheld as part of such punitive measures.

In addition, Jordan’s “Weaponization of the Federal Government” subcommittee, in tandem with the esteemed judiciary panel, seeks to enshrine appropriations bills that explicitly bar taxpayer funds from being misused to stifle expression in the digital realm. They are vehemently opposed to the sneaky labeling of some speech as “mis-, dis-, or mal-information,” which they perceive as an attack on the values of a free and democratic society.

House Republicans have listened bravely to FBI and IRS whistleblowers throughout this heated story. Gary Shapley, an IRS whistleblower, was one of those who spoke out courageously about the alleged retaliation he faced for raising concerns about the DOJ. Shapley expressed concern in a recent interview with Just the News that the current activities of his leadership amount to nothing more than vindictiveness. He spoke eloquently about how he thinks his bosses know all about forbidden personnel practices and use a complex web of retaliatory methods to hide their genuine intents.

This remarkable ideological conflict plays out in the sacred halls of power, forever altering the course of human events. This bill is a tribute to the unyielding spirit of House Republicans, reverberating around the world and capturing the imaginations of political watchers for its bold cuts to the FBI’s budget, unyielding protection for whistleblowers, and strong defense of free expression.
