The House investigation into the January 6, 2021, Capitol incident is entering a new phase, with increased support and resources provided by House Speaker Mike Johnson. Under the leadership of Rep. Barry Loudermilk, Chairman of the House Administration Committee’s Oversight Subcommittee, the investigation aims to uncover the truth behind the events of that day and the security failures that led to the breach of the Capitol.
Loudermilk emphasized the need for a fact-based inquiry, criticizing the previous House Select Committee on January 6 for its alleged biases and exclusion of evidence that contradicted their narrative. He accused the committee of trying to prove a preconceived story that placed blame
solely on Trump and the Republicans, despite the lack of evidence to support such claims.
The expanded investigation will focus on the security breakdowns that allowed the Capitol to be breached, the role of federal agents in the crowd, and the actions of the Select Committee. Loudermilk pointed out inconsistencies in the previous investigation, such as the erection of a gallows near the Capitol and the lack of proactive measures to dismantle it.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed his support for the renewed investigation, criticizing the partisan nature of the previous committee and its failure to deliver transparency. He praised Loudermilk’s efforts to bring clarity to the events of January 6.
The investigation will also scrutinize the decision-making process regarding the deployment of the National Guard and the handling of National Guard readiness orders by former President Trump. It aims to present an unbiased perspective and provide the American public with the truth about what happened on January 6.
