As part of the “Take Our Border Back” caravan, hundreds of Americans from all over the country came to the Texas border in a powerful show of concern and togetherness, indicating a strong demand for more stringent border security measures. The event was held at a private ranch in Quemado, Texas, which is located north of Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass is a hub for unauthorized border crossings, where the Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety have intervened.
On a Friday night, the convoy made a big impression at the ranch with its lengthy procession of semi-trucks and passenger cars. A peaceful protest in favor of a more secure southern border and law enforcement attempts to address the situation was held on the 10-acre ranch property, complete with Christian music performances and an evening spent beneath the stars.
Flag-waving and item sales welcomed guests and created a joyous mood for a cause that many people are deeply committed to. The ranch’s manager, Anson Bills, reiterated the call for Americans who are worried about the border situation to unite for a weekend of prayer and support.
As part of the border convoy program, three simultaneous activities were planned, one of which was held in Quemado; the other two were in Yuma, Arizona, and San Ysidro, California. Politicians, such as Republican Congressman Keith Self of Texas’ 3rd congressional district, have expressed interest in and support for the border security effort. Self has reaffirmed his support for Governor Greg Abbott and other governors who have taken proactive measures to secure the southern border.
The “Take Our Border Back” demonstration coincides with tensions between Texas authorities and the Biden administration over border security measures, specifically pertaining to Eagle Pass’s Shelby Park. Texas has refused requests from the federal government to return control to the Border Patrol and has kept erecting razor wire barriers to prevent illegal crossings.
With over 10 million people reportedly having crossed the border illegally since President Joe Biden took office, this huge grassroots campaign shows the growing alarm among Americans about this trend. The Texas event highlights how urgent many people feel that effective immigration and border security measures are needed.
