According to a court document filed on Tuesday, Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, has reached a deal with the Justice Department in which he will plead guilty to federal tax and firearm charges. The agreement is expected to result in him avoiding jail time. The charges stem from a five-year investigation into the 53-year-old’s financial dealings with overseas business interests.
Under the terms of the deal, Hunter Biden will admit to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax and one firearm offense. Shortly after his father’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, Hunter Biden disclosed that his “tax affairs” were being investigated by the Delaware US Attorney’s Office, led by David Weiss.
Last month, multiple reports indicated that Weiss was nearing a decision on whether to file charges following a meeting between Hunter Biden’s legal team and Justice Department officials in late April.
