Abbe Lowell, the attorney representing Hunter Biden, expressed his apprehension regarding the potential influence of external pressures on the ongoing investigation involving his client. Lowell, who has previously worked for Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, shared his thoughts during an appearance on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins. His remarks were in response to the appointment of David Weiss as a special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland on the same day. Weiss had been leading the investigation since 2019 based on allegations that resulted in an unsuccessful plea agreement. Lowell indicated that he is observing the situation to see if there will be any alterations.
Lowell stated, “My primary concern is that factors beyond objective facts and legal considerations might impact any forthcoming decisions.” When asked for further explanation, he elaborated, “What I’m alluding to is a commonly known and openly discussed phenomenon. Since the announcement and filing of this arrangement, numerous fervent supporters of MAGA and right-wing ideologies have vehemently criticized and protested, claiming injustice and bias.”
According to Lowell, Biden is prepared to take accountability for charges that were lodged earlier. He affirmed his commitment to defend his client if any additional charges emerge. Lowell highlighted the attempts by the former president to exploit Hunter Biden to divert attention from his own actions. He expressed concerns that the ensuing uproar could potentially overshadow the facts and legal considerations. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that a responsible prosecutor would not allow such interference to occur, adding, “We’ll need to wait and observe.”
Abbe Lowell is a white-collar defense attorney affiliated with the international law firm Winston and Strawn. Kushner sought his legal representation during the 2017 investigation into alleged connections to Russia, alongside his wife Ivanka Trump.
The responsibility falls upon David Weiss to compile a report outlining whether to pursue charges against Biden. Following the collapse of a plea agreement, Biden entered a plea of not guilty in response to the tax-related charges brought against him.
