Federal officials have initiated deportation proceedings against 54-year-old Nina Kristina Jaaskelainen following an incident in Florida where she allegedly threw a hot coffee at a mother, her 11-month-old infant, and their dog during an argument about an unleashed pet. Jaaskelainen, a Finnish national, entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in April 1999 and remained in the country beyond its expiration, making her status unauthorized for more than two decades.

Local law-enforcement records indicate that during the confrontation, the mother and child were sprayed with still-hot coffee; deputies say they found dried coffee residue on the baby’s clothing and bedding. Footage from a home-security camera captured the moment of the attack, and Jaaskelainen was arrested and charged with battery and domestic violence. Immigration authorities say she was considered a priority for removal under a policy focused on non-citizens with chargeable criminal offenses.
