Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez, a 26-year-old Honduran national, was apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after the dismissal of severe charges concerning an attempted child abduction and violent home invasion in Fairfax County, Virginia.
In June 2023, an alleged attempt was made to abduct a four-year-old child from her residence. Despite the fact that a plea agreement had been reached, the judge ultimately rejected it, and the charges were dismissed as a result of evidentiary concerns.
The criminal record of Baquedano-Rodriguez, which includes indecent exposure, theft, disorderly conduct, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, was cited by ICE officials as a significant public safety concern. He initially entered the United States illegally in 2018 and has since been involved in numerous interactions with law enforcement.
His removal from the United States has been ordered by an immigration magistrate. He is currently in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in anticipation of his deportation to Honduras. The case has reignited the debate regarding local jurisdictions that refuse to fully cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, thereby evoking broader concerns regarding public safety and accountability.
