The targeted murder of Hakham Muhammad Issa al-Issa, a prominent Hamas leader thought to have been a key planner of the October 7 terror attack on Israeli citizens, has been confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces. The airstrike, which was conducted in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, dealt a serious blow to Hamas’s leadership.
Al-Issa, who was once in charge of combat support and training, was one of the first members of Hamas’ military branch. He was a key player in organizing and carrying out the first massacre as well as further military actions against Israel, according to Israeli officials.
According to military experts, al-Issa’s passing will interfere with Hamas’s ability to coordinate its operations and postpone its ability to reorganize as Israeli campaigns become more intense. Israel’s larger plan to kill senior Hamas officials and destroy the organization’s leadership structure included the strike.
In a series of operations to eliminate those directly responsible for planning acts of terror against Israeli citizens, the IDF has persisted in giving priority to high-value targets.
