Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, a 19-year-old Honduran national who is illegally residing in the United States, was arrested in Louisiana on suspicion of taking part in several violent crimes, such as the rape of a minor and another instance in which he allegedly stabbed a person during an armed robbery. Castellanos-Orellana was arrested by the Kenner Police Department following the armed robbery. He is said to have repeatedly stabbed the victim in the face and back when they were stepping out of their vehicle.
The Kenner Police made this arrest after Castellanos-Orellana was named as a suspect in the first-degree rape and aggravated assault of a 14-year-old female. The investigation of these violations involved consultation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which has asked that Castellanos-Orellana be placed under custody due to his illegal status and use of fake names.
The charges against Castellanos-Orellana include aggravated assault, first-degree rape, armed robbery, and aggravated violence. The things she did have the community and local law enforcement very worried. Kenner Keith Conley, Chief of Police, highlighted the challenges that illegal immigration poses to law enforcement, including verifying the identities of individuals and using up city resources.
A more thorough discussion on immigration law and border security has been sparked by the events surrounding Castellanos-Orellana, with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry emphasizing the need for stricter border restrictions to safeguard public safety. Given the current administration’s heightened confrontations at the border with criminal illegal immigrants and the surge in illegal immigration into the nation, this case emphasizes the ongoing national conversation over immigration and its implications on public safety.
