The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said agents arrested 43-year-old Salvadoran national Carlos Ramirez-Guzman, who is accused of assaulting a police officer and is reported to have re-entered the U.S. illegally after being deported on three separate occasions. He also faces separate charges for failing to appear in court on a previous case.

ICE confirmed that the individual was taken into custody during a targeted operation and that he had been removed from the country previously in 2010, 2018 and 2023. Federal prosecutors say he is being held pending federal charges that could lead to years in prison if convicted. The arrest highlights concerns within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) about repeat immigration offenders and the challenges of tracking and preventing unauthorized entries after removal orders have been executed.
