Norm Eisen, a pivotal figure in the initial impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, has demanded the resignation of Georgia election fraud prosecutor Nathan Wade. Allegations of an improper relationship between Wade and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis have prompted this appeal. Eisen, in his capacity as special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee, underscored the situation’s potential ethical ramifications.
The controversy pertains to Wade’s employment as a special prosecutor during an alleged romantic relationship with Willis. It has been alleged that Wade utilized a portion of the compensation he received in the election interference case to purchase airline tickets and additional gifts for Willis. The attorney from the Atlanta metropolitan area has amassed more than $650,000 from this case.
Eisen characterized the personal association between Willis and Wade as “ill-advised” and observed that although Georgia law may not provide a legal ground to disqualify Wade, the purported conduct could contravene the ethics policies of Fulton County. Eisen stated, “If he approached me as the ethics czar, I would advise him that exercising discretion is the superior course of action, regardless of the law.”
County Commissioner Bob Ellis increased the level of scrutiny on the situation when he requested that Willis disclose information pertaining to Wade’s appointment in the Trump case. This inquiry pertains to an investigation concerning the potential “misuse” of taxpayer funds associated with Wade’s participation in the case.
The allegations were initially disclosed subsequent to the filing of court papers by Trump co-defendant Mike Roman, which sought the dismissal of criminal charges against him in relation to the “improper” and “clandestine” affair between Willis and Wade. He claimed that Wade showered Willis with gifts using a portion of the compensation he received from Fulton County for his work on the election interference case.
Eisen’s demand that Wade resign serves to underscore the intricate and delicate nature of the ongoing legal proceedings involving Trump and his co-defendants. Concerns have been expressed regarding the prosecution’s integrity and the ethical standards that govern the legal system in light of the allegations.
