In response to the omnibus spending bill, McCarthy rips against prominent Democrats, saying things like, “They’re Saying There’s No Waste In Government Spending,”

On Sunday, House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and President Joe Biden came under fire from Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) who accused them of not wanting to cut waste from the Democrats’ enormous omnibus plan.

McCarthy made the comments while addressing the debt ceiling increase on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” with Margaret Brennan.

It’s “the responsible thing to do” to “sit down like two adults and start having that talk,” as McCarthy put it. You have surpassed the credit limit on your card, and so the debt limit has been reached. Should we keep increasing the cap? Otherwise, shouldn’t we have a look at our budget?

McCarthy refuted Brennan’s notion that the repayment of debts was the driving factor. Since Chuck Schumer has been in charge, not a single budget has been approved. He has never been successful in passing a budget measure. That’s the very minimum that Congress needs to accomplish.

McCarthy stated, “The only people standing in the way right now are the president and Schumer.” They can’t even agree on a spending plan. They are very unwilling to compromise. Until June, we wait. I’d like to make sure that we have a debt-neutral plan in place that’s also responsible.

What he had been hoping for, he said. If the president didn’t comment, the markets would be in a far more stable position. Do you think there is no waste in government like the president and your audience seem to think there is? Do you seriously think all $1.7 trillion was spent wisely? That is how much we were spending as recently as four weeks ago. The logical thing to do would be to get together, figure out how to cut down on the excess, and go back into the black.
