Former President Donald Trump has issued an executive order calling for the declassification of numerous government documents linked to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The order also covers records associated with the assassinations of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. As part of the directive, the Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General have been given specific deadlines to outline their plans for the release of these documents.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently appointed to a government position, welcomed the decision, emphasizing the need for greater transparency regarding historical events of national significance. On the other hand, John F. Kennedy’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, criticized the order, arguing that it politicizes his grandfather’s legacy rather than serving as an act of genuine accountability.
Although most documents related to the assassinations have already been released to the public, a small fraction remains classified. Analysts suggest that while the remaining files may offer additional context, they are unlikely to contain groundbreaking revelations that would significantly alter the established narrative.
