Since the Tigers beat the Hawkeyes in the final game of the NCAA Tournament, Reese has been talked about a lot.
Angel Reese, a great women’s basketball player for the LSU Tigers, may have gotten more backlash than normal after her latest comment about Jill Biden’s White House invitation.
Biden said on Monday that she wanted to welcome both LSU and the Iowa Hawkeyes, who lost to the Tigers in the NCAA Tournament championship game on Sunday by a score of 102-85.
Biden was at the American Airlines Center in Dallas to see LSU win. He told ESPN in Denver on Monday, “I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House, we always do.” Because of this, we want to invite LSU. But I’m going to tell Joe that after that win, I think Iowa should join us too.
Reese posted a link to the ESPN story with Biden’s comments, showing that she feels strongly about both candidates.
She wrote “A JOKE” and three smiley faces before each line.
Since Title IX was passed in 1972, women’s sports have changed a lot. This is why Vice President Biden invited the loser team of a title to the White House, which is rare.
“It was so exciting, wasn’t it?” she asked ESPN. “That competition was great. I’m old enough to remember when Title IX came out. We did fight very hard. How hard did we fight? Think about how far women’s sports have come in the last thirty years.
Since LSU beat Iowa, Reese’s insult to Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, who was the national player of the year, has been talked about a lot by athletes, people in the media, and sports fans.
Reese looked at Clark and made the famous “You can’t see me” sign that WWE hero John Cena made famous. After Clark did the same thing against Louisville in the Elite Eight, Reese said this.
Reese followed Clark around the court as she did the routine. He pointed to her ring finger to show that he was thinking about the stones she and her Tigers teammates would get for winning the title.
Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports was one of the people who didn’t like what Reese did. He called her a “classless piece of s—” on Twitter. Stephen A. Smith of ESPN was one of the people who thought Reese’s actions were worse than Clark’s only because she is Black.
Smith said on Monday’s show of “First Take”: “Here’s the truth of the situation: [Clark] started all this.” Let’s just call a spade a spade. She was doing a John Cena and waving her arms around. What she did to Raven Johnson, on the other hand. In the national playoffs against South Carolina, she didn’t just go into the lane without protecting her. She waved her away, and it was clear that the rudeness didn’t bother her. Then the question is, “Why are we so afraid to talk about that?”
When Caitlin did this, everyone was happy and couldn’t stop talking about her success. This shows that there is a white-black problem at play. But then a sister stepped up and threw it back in her face, and suddenly the whole basketball world was like, “You know what? That wasn’t the smartest thing to do. You can’t keep acting that way. In every way, it was the same thing.
When asked about how she celebrated after the game, Reese said she didn’t mind the criticism that was sure to come her way.
I’m pleased. She went on, “All year long, I was judged for being myself.”I don’t fit in with the story. I don’t fit into the group you have made for me. I have too much of a criminal in me. I can’t make it in the poor areas. She replied, “You’ve been telling me that for a whole year.
But you guys don’t say anything when it’s someone else doing it. So, this one is for all the women who look like me. That will stand up for what they believe in. I did this tonight because it’s all about you. Tonight, it was bigger than me. It was much bigger than me. Every time, angry tweets will flood Twitter. I’m glad to say that. This year, I felt like I did my part to make women’s basketball grow. I feel a lot of happiness and excitement. I can’t wait for the party and the new season to start.
Reese added, “A hell of a player for sure, but I don’t take disrespect lightly.” He was talking about Clark’s gesture toward the South Carolina player while he was open at the three-point line in the semi-finals. Smith pointed this out. By saying this, Clark was implying that she didn’t offer any risk that was too bad.
Reese was chosen as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after he helped LSU win its first-ever national title with 15 points and 10 boards.
It’s not clear if Vice President Joe Biden will send the offer, and if he does, it’s also not clear if the two trips to Iowa will happen at the same time or not.
