Jimmy Kimmel, a well-known figure in late-night television and often recognized for his liberal viewpoints, openly expressed his astonishment and concern regarding recent polls indicating former President Donald Trump’s lead over President Joe Biden in several pivotal states. During a monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Kimmel highlighted the outcomes of presidential primaries across four states, where both Biden and Trump emerged victorious. Despite this, Kimmel pointed out the lingering presence of Nikki Haley, who secured a notable percentage of the Republican vote in New York and Wisconsin, as a continuing challenge to Trump.

What particularly troubled Kimmel, however, was a Wall Street Journal poll revealing Trump’s lead over Biden in crucial battleground states including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Kimmel humorously remarked on Trump’s popularity, even among those who have previously worked with him, expressing frustration and confusion over the poll results.

The Wall Street Journal’s poll disclosed Trump’s advantage, with leads ranging between 2 and 8 percentage points in six of the mentioned states, regardless of whether third-party and independent candidates were included in the ballot. Wisconsin stood out as an exception, with Biden narrowly leading by 3 points in a ballot that featured multiple candidates, although a direct head-to-head matchup showed the candidates tied.

The 2024 election is anticipated to be a rematch between Trump and Biden, yet with different dynamics compared to the 2020 race. The Wall Street Journal’s report underscored the tarnished reputations of both candidates but noted a more unfavorable view of Biden among voters. When asked to compare the candidates’ physical and mental fitness for presidency, 48% preferred Trump over Biden’s 28%. This perspective is reflected in Biden’s struggling efforts to maintain the coalition that supported him in 2020, with decreasing support from Black, Hispanic, and young voters being particularly notable.

This scenario, as discussed by Kimmel, sheds light on the changing political landscape and voter sentiments leading up to the next presidential election, capturing the attention and concern of both the public and commentators alike.
