Podcast host Joe Rogan, previously a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, sharply criticized the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement strategy, calling the recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids “insane” after discovering that many of the professionals targeted were noncriminal workers—gardeners, laborers, and legally present immigrants.
Rogan noted that his own shift in perspective followed deeper engagement with his guest’s account of one individual swept up in the operation, a Venezuelan makeup artist who had sought asylum due to persecution for his sexual orientation. He argued that while cracking down on violent offenders is appropriate, broad enforcement against non-criminals strains the values of justice and fairness.
Despite his prior endorsement of Trump in the 2024 presidential election, Rogan now faults the execution of the raids for moving beyond national-security priorities into mass deportations with alarming human consequences. He urged a recalibration of policy, emphasizing that immigration enforcement should not punish innocent workers and destabilize families.
Conservative commentators have taken note of Rogan’s change, viewing it as a potential signal of discontent within Trump’s broader populist support base. The controversy underlines how public opinion, even among former allies, is being reshaped by the conduct and focus of immigration operations.
