A resolution to impeach U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg was officially filed by Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas), accusing the chief judge of abusing his judicial authority in connection with the special-counsel probe known as “Arctic Frost.”
In the document, Gill alleges Boasberg knowingly empowered the Department of Justice and FBI by approving secret subpoenas targeting Republican senators and engaging in what the resolution calls “weaponization of the judiciary.” The single article of impeachment charges Boasberg with “abuse of power.”
Boasberg has become a prominent target among allies of former President Donald Trump, who labeled him politically biased and has pushed for his removal ever since Boasberg ruled against key administration actions. While impeachment of a federal judge is rare and requires major congressional support, the move marks an escalation in the ongoing conflict between Congress and the judiciary over oversight and separation of powers.
