The New York judge presiding over the civil fraud trial involving former President Donald Trump faced criticism on social media after cameras captured him smiling and seemingly posing for cameras as the trial began. Judge Arthur Engoron, a New York City judge, was briefly shown in the courtroom, which led to immediate outrage from conservatives on social media.
Many social media users accused Judge Engoron of being partisan and unprofessional. Some referred to him as a “partisan Democrat clown” and labeled the trial as a “kangaroo court.” Critics expressed concerns about the state of the judicial system and democracy itself.
Former President Trump also criticized Judge Engoron, dismissing him as a “Democrat” and an “operative” and claiming that the court was rigged. Trump accused the judge of interfering with an election and suggested that Engoron should be disbarred or charged criminally for his actions.
Attorney General Letitia James, who initiated the lawsuit against Trump, maintained that “justice will prevail” and accused Trump of fraudulent business practices.
The controversy surrounding Judge Engoron’s demeanor and the trial’s proceedings generated significant attention on social media and highlighted the divisive nature of the case. The New York State Office of Court Administration declined to comment on the matter.
