A federal judge sharply criticized the Trump administration after learning that deportation flights proceeded overnight despite an existing court order. The tense exchange unfolded in court as the judge accused government officials of deliberately undermining judicial authority by executing the removal during the early morning hours.
According to the court, the late-night deportation involved several migrants scheduled for removal under the administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown. The judge expressed outrage, accusing the Department of Homeland Security of signing off on the deportation in secrecy, referring to it as being “signed in the dark.”
Government attorneys defended the timing, arguing that flight logistics required flexibility and that the removals were consistent with national security interests. They maintained that the action did not violate the order but acknowledged that the flight departed before additional clarification from the court.
The judge, however, rejected those explanations, warning that such actions risk contempt proceedings if federal authorities continue ignoring judicial rulings. The court emphasized that compliance with orders is mandatory, regardless of political priorities or agency discretion.
This latest clash marks a growing legal battle between the Trump administration and federal courts over the scope and execution of immigration policies, particularly as deportation efforts accelerate under renewed enforcement measures.
