Ivanka Trump Compelled to Testify in Ongoing New York Civil Case Against Trump Organization

In a significant legal development, a New York judge has issued an order for Ivanka Trump to provide testimony as a witness in the ongoing civil case against the Trump Organization, her father, former President Donald Trump, and her brothers.

This decision comes after Ivanka Trump was formally dismissed as a defendant in the case back in June. The lawsuit was initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, who alleged that Donald Trump and his company engaged in intentional deception of banks and other entities regarding the valuation of their assets.

Judge Arthur Engoron, presiding over the case, has supported the arguments presented by state attorneys, who contended that Ivanka Trump, in her capacity as the former executive vice president of the Trump Organization, possesses critical information relevant to the ongoing legal proceedings. The judge referred to documents indicating that Ivanka Trump still maintained business connections in New York and continued to own Manhattan apartments.

Judge Engoron remarked, “Ms. Trump has evidently conducted business activities within New York,” as he explained his ruling. He further noted that her testimony would be scheduled after November 1, allowing her legal team the opportunity to pursue an appeal. In response, Ivanka Trump’s attorney, Bennet Moskowitz, asserted that state lawyers lacked jurisdiction over her.

Attorney Christopher Kise, who represents former President Trump, echoed this position, arguing that state lawyers are attempting to embark on yet another unwarranted investigation involving President Trump’s children. Kise also contended that Ivanka Trump is not under the control of the Trump Organization.

In contrast, Kevin Wallace, a lawyer representing the New York State Attorney General’s Office, emphasized that Ivanka Trump is fully capable of providing testimony in the case. Attorney General Letitia James has accused Donald Trump, along with his children Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, as well as associates and businesses, of committing “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation” in their financial documentation. James alleges that Donald Trump inflated his net worth by billions of dollars and that his children played a pivotal role in this effort.

Throughout his presidency, Letitia James pursued numerous legal challenges against the Trump administration, contesting policies across various domains, including the environment, immigration, education, and healthcare.

Donald Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing, characterizing the investigation as politically motivated and labeling it a “witch hunt.” The ongoing legal proceedings continue to draw significant attention as the case unfolds in the state of New York.
