During a recent hearing, a judge ruled that Christine Baumgartner must pay Kevin Costner’s attorneys’ fees, amounting to $14,237.50, after she had “refused in bad faith” to answer questions from Costner’s legal team. The judge ordered Baumgartner to pay this amount by September 22 and submit answers to Costner’s approved questions. However, the judge denied some other requests from Costner, including Baumgartner’s request for order, which aimed to compel Costner to provide financial documents and pay nearly $9,000 in attorneys’ fees.
This legal development comes amid an ongoing divorce battle between Costner and Baumgartner. In another recent ruling, a judge decided not to increase Costner’s monthly child support payments, maintaining them at $63,209. The judge clarified that support exceeding this amount would be considered spousal support, leaving room for Baumgartner to argue for spousal support in the future.
Costner expressed his perspective on the situation, emphasizing that there are no winners in such a lengthy relationship and divorce process. He acknowledged the vulnerability that comes with life’s unpredictable twists and turns and emphasized that he and Baumgartner need to figure out their co-parenting arrangements.
The legal expert Brett Ward, who is not involved in the case, commented on the child support request, describing it as a mistake and suggesting that the ruling serves as a warning sign to Baumgartner as they prepare for a trial regarding the validity of their premarital agreement in November.
Baumgartner testified about her future employment plans, indicating that she might need to go to college to become employable. Costner also spoke about his finances during his testimony, including details about his “Yellowstone” salary and the impact of the divorce on his life.
The divorce proceedings began when Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner in May, citing April 11 as the date of separation. The couple shares three children: Caden, Hayes, and Grace.
