Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson expressed deep concern over what she referred to as “a crisis in our democracy” during a recent public address. Speaking at a judicial event, Jackson highlighted growing threats, including escalating political polarization, declining public trust in institutions, misinformation, and threats to the rule of law.

Justice Jackson emphasized that democratic norms cannot be assumed but must be actively preserved. She warned that unchecked erosion of democratic principles poses real risks to civil rights, equal justice, and the effectiveness of at-risk court systems.

Her remarks come amid a surge in litigation over voting rights, executive power, and judicial independence. Jackson cautioned legal professionals, policymakers, and citizens to remain vigilant, preserve the integrity of democratic processes, and resist forces that seek to undermine constitutional checks and balances.

By issuing a public warning, Justice Jackson underscored an urgent call for collective responsibility to safeguard democratic values.
