This week, Vice President Kamala Harris found herself in the middle of a scandal after she made a statement that was met with significant condemnation. In a speech that she gave at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she was discussing the allocation of $20 billion to green energy initiatives, Harris suggested that reducing the population could be a means to ensuring that future generations will have access to clean air and water.
Her comments sparked a flurry of responses from a variety of persons, including Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Representative Thomas Massie, Republican of Kentucky. Musk, who is well-known for his concerns on falling birth rates, responded by saying, “Reducing population is nuts.” It is imperative that we have more people.
Massie, in response, questioned whether he was among the number that Harris sought to shrink, which prompted the Blaze contributor Steve Deace to joke, “Thomas Malthus lives! To be fair, he comes out as even more inept than I recall…
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, voiced her concerns and requested for clarity on the ways that were offered to promote public health. She questioned whether the vice president was referring to methods such as abortion or assisted suicide to achieve population decrease, and she asked for clarification on the methods.
Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri) accused Harris of publicly stating the “quiet part” of her and other climate alarmists’ purported anti-human ideology and their goal to limit the human population. Schmitt made this accusation in response to Harris’ statement that she and other climate alarmists want to reduce the human population.
Stephen Miller, a political pundit, pointed to John Holdren’s book “Ecoscience,” for which Holdren served as the climate czar during the Obama administration, as evidence that population reduction has long been an aim of climate alarmists.
A notable change that was made to the transcript of Harris’ address at the White House was the substitution of the word “population” for “pollution.”
In the midst of the debate, Harris stressed the critical nature of taking action to address climate change by remarking, “It is clear that the clock is not only ticking, but it is banging, and we must act.”
As reported by the Baltimore Banner, the remaining $6 billion will be invested in green energy programs in low-income communities. Of the $20 billion that Harris mentioned, around $14 billion would be dedicated to several clean energy technology projects, and the remaining $6 billion will be invested in total.
The money were authorized as part of a bill that was attached to a package proposed by President Joe Biden to combat inflation. However, some detractors of the bill contended that the significant expenditure that was contained in it merely increased to fears about inflation rather than helping to alleviate those concerns.
