Former Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage at a major real estate conference in Australia with a pointed message about the dangers of rising global isolationism, while also calling out tech mogul Elon Musk and the foreign policy approach of the Trump administration.
Speaking to a crowd of more than 4,000 professionals on the Gold Coast, Harris pushed back on Musk’s recent comments suggesting that empathy is a weakness in modern society. Harris countered that empathy reflects strength and leadership, arguing that genuine concern for others is essential to global cooperation and problem-solving.
She also drew historical comparisons to the isolationist tendencies of the 1930s, warning that turning inward during times of global unrest can have dangerous consequences. While she did not directly name former President Donald Trump, Harris criticized the “America First” stance that defined his administration, advocating instead for renewed international partnerships and collective security.
Her appearance comes amid renewed speculation about her political future, including a possible gubernatorial run in California or a return to the national stage in 2028. Despite stepping back after the 2024 election loss, Harris has remained vocal on foreign affairs, democracy, and economic policy.
Concluding her speech, Harris urged the audience to stay civically aware and globally engaged, adding that history must be remembered to prevent repeating its darkest chapters.
