During a press conference, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre a question concerning illegal immigration and the reported increase in the number of people crossing the border. This sparked a heated discussion between the two individuals.
The question that Doocy asked was in reference to recent reports that stated that 10,000 individuals had crossed the border illegally in a single day. Nevertheless, before Jean-Pierre could react, she questioned Doocy, “What do you call it, Peter, when GOP puts forth a—” but then she cut herself short, which led to a disagreement between the two of them.
After some time, Jean-Pierre moved on to other reporters without immediately responding to Doocy’s query.
The exchange took place against the background of continued worries about illegal immigration and border security. Preliminary data from the Border Patrol indicate that a large number of foreign nationals were arrested or evaded capture after unlawfully invading the southwest border in August. The data also indicate that the number of foreign nationals apprehended or fleeing capture increased from July.
In addition, Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently ordered the deployment of the Texas National Guard to assist in addressing the situation at the southern border. Abbott cited worries over the disruption of border towns by human traffickers as well as the flood of hazardous narcotics such as fentanyl while making his announcement.
