Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer signaled a push toward completing the closure of asylum hotels earlier than planned, pledging to “bring forward” the target despite not committing to a specific timeline.
Explaining the urgency, Starmer acknowledged public concerns about immigration and reaffirmed his commitment to regaining full control over borders. He emphasized that while he understands the frustrations surrounding asylum accommodations, action must remain orderly—not reactive.
On a different front of national discourse, Starmer addressed the recent wave of St. George’s Cross flags displayed in towns across England, particularly near protest sites outside migrant housing. He cautioned against using patriotic symbols for divisive purposes and clarified that he proudly keeps a St. George’s flag in his Downing Street flat. The Prime Minister reiterated his long-standing preference for affirming national identity, noting that the Union Jack also features prominently in Labour’s membership designs.
