Keith Ellison, the deputy chairman of the DNC is proposing a maximum wage though he didn’t specify how much it would be.
He said anything on top of that would be taxed at 100%. But he makes it clear that current salaries of CEOs is way too high. He asked why a CEO should make so much while a burger flipper can’t get $15 dollars an hour.
Could it be because the CEO could flip burgers but burger flippers can’t run a multinational company? For that matter, how many people in America are capable of flipping a burger?
Now, how many people are capable of running a company with hundreds of thousands of employees?
Ellison said:
“No, no, no, I didn’t make a joke about maximum wage, I made a statement about maximum wage.”
“What I’m saying is … If you were to say, ‘Look, if you make more than 20 times more than the people who actually make the products and do the services of your company,’ then we’re going to tax you more.”
“But this idea that you can leave people in poverty as you are stacking up dead presidents like nobody’s business has got to come to an end. I mean, the CEO of McDonald’s makes $9,000 an hour and they’re fighting people getting $15 an hour.”
“Why shouldn’t there be a maximum wage?”
Well, Keith, let me ask you a question: Who will you exempt from this tax?
Remember, those super donors who contribute millions every year to the Democrats won’t have the money for you anymore. So, do you exempt entertainers? That wouldn’t be fair. While Arianna Grande is making untold millions of dollars every year, her back up dancers make a very small percentage of that.
Some actors make $20 million a movie and will make 2 or 3 in a year.
But how much does an extra make? A pittance. And how about sports stars? How much do they make compared to the men and women selling peanuts and beer at the games? And let’s not forget venture capitalists who make it possible for people to start businesses or expand old ones. They would just go away overnight.
No profit, no investment.
This will probably not be the dumbest thing anyone has ever come up with but that’s mostly because he has another eight months in this year to top it.
