Several months before his death, Charlie Kirk publicly warned that what he described as an “assassination culture” was growing on the left side of the political spectrum.
In an April post, Kirk shared survey results showing that a large portion of left-leaning respondents believed it could be justified to kill public figures—figures such as Donald Trump and Elon Musk were specifically named. He argued that political losses were increasingly viewed by some as warranting violent retaliation.
Those warnings now appear prescient, as Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. The manner of his death—during a public event at the outset of his “American Comeback Tour”—has prompted many to revisit his earlier concerns about political violence.
