A violent incident erupted at a New York City courthouse when a 32-year-old man suddenly charged at security officers with a large knife. The assailant slashed two guards—wounding one, aged 29, across the neck and face. The other sustained minor injuries during the struggle.
Court personnel and responding officers quickly subdued the attacker using Tasers. The injured guard has been hospitalized and is receiving medical treatment. Court operations were halted temporarily while an emergency lockdown and investigation were carried out.
Authorities have identified the suspect and are assessing whether mental illness contributed to the sudden attack. New York City’s Police Department continues to question him and review surveillance footage from inside the courthouse.
