The leader of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, was officially certified deceased at the age of 86. The monarchy of the oil-rich Gulf state was officially proclaimed by the monarch in a formal announcement that was broadcast on Kuwaiti state television around three years ago. It has been reported that Sheikh Nawaf was recently confined to the hospital for critical health issues, but has since been declared stable, although the precise circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown.

Kuwait, due to its geographical proximity to Saudi Arabia and Iraq, possesses the seventh most substantial hydrocarbon reserves globally. Elements of internal political conflict experienced by the emirate within the sovereign household are often withheld from the general populace.

The pre-demise opulent announcement of the national broadcaster was replaced with verses from the Quran, as opposed to its routinely scheduled programming. Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Sabah, in his capacity at the emiri court, expressed the deepest condolences of the Kuwaiti people, Arab and Islamic nations, and allies across the globe on the passing of Sheikh Nawaf.

The health condition and medical treatment journeys of the late emir have been extensively documented by state media channels. Among these was a visit to the United States in March 2021 for diagnostic procedures.

Sheikh Nawaf, who was bestowed with the title of crown prince in 2006, succeeded his brother, Sheikh Sabah, as emircy ruler in September 2020. The latter was a highly skilled strategist in the development of modern Kuwaiti foreign policy. Throughout his tenure as defense minister during Iraq’s invasion in 1990, Sheikh Nawaf ensured that Kuwait maintained its strategic alliance with the United States.

Under the discerning leadership of Sheikh Nawaf, Kuwait has tactfully managed its foreign policy, guaranteeing a state of harmonious coexistence with its neighboring nations. Within the realm of domestic affairs, the emir supervised the formation of eight administrations, placing significant importance on internal affairs and addressing legislative disputes, particularly those concerning the state’s social welfare system. Notwithstanding the considerable hydrocarbon revenues generated by the nation, these impediments averted the government from accumulating debt, thereby averting the strain on financial resources necessary to support public sector salaries.

In 2021, Sheikh Nawaf promulgated an amnesty proclamation in an effort to alleviate political tensions. A significant number of Kuwaiti activists were granted pardons and had their sentences commuted as a consequence of this action; this development signifies a noteworthy progression in the endeavor to resolve governmental conflicts. Numerous parliamentary elections were held throughout his tenure in an effort to resolve the political impasse that afflicted the country.

Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, half-brother of Sheikh Nawaf and reigning prince, is 83 years old. He has held the position of interim monarch since 2021, when he assumed the majority of the emir’s responsibilities in light of the latter’s declining health. The anticipated successor to Sheikh Nawaf is Sheikh Meshal.

Kuwait is a multicultural civilization consisting of individuals who have emigrated from over a hundred different nations. Less than one-third of its estimated 4.5 million inhabitants are Kuwaiti nationals.

As an expression of condolence, regional media outlets have reported that Egypt has proclaimed three days of national mourning in remembrance of Sheikh Nawaf.
