Mexican presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), who is currently the frontrunner to win the Mexican presidency, is calling for mass migration into the United States, calling it a human right.
He’s better watch out that his crocodile mouth doesn’t get his butterfly butt in some real trouble. AMLO shouldn’t count on Congress to save him since Trump could badly damage Mexico without so much as a nod to Congress.
Does anyone know what the biggest source of income is for Mexico? Tourism? No. Oil? No. It’s remittances. That’s money that Mexicans living in the United States sends back to Mexico. Stop those and Mexico flounders but that’s not the only weapon President Trump has. He can also scrap NAFTA and companies that moved to Mexico would have to have second thoughts. With just those two moves, President Trump could set the Mexican economy on a downward spiral.
Of course, AMLO could allow immigrants free access through his country, while also encouraging Mexican citizens to migrate north of the border, but if he should do that, President Trump could place the military on the border and force the immigrants to remain in Mexico with their already fragile economy.
Obrador in April delivered speech criticizing Trump and promising that Mexico will not become a “piñata” for any foreign government, Global News reports.
“And soon, very soon — after the victory of our movement — we will defend all the migrants in the American continent and all the migrants in the world,” Obrador said, adding that immigrants “must leave their towns and find a life in the United States.”
The former mayor of Mexico City, Obrador holds progressive populist views. The 64-year-old ran unsuccessfully for president twice before, according to DW.
Fox’s Tucker Carlson noted Thursday that Obrador has previously proposed granting amnesty to Mexican drug cartels. “America is now Mexico’s social safety net, and that’s a very good deal for the Mexican ruling class,” Carlson added.
