Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis swiftly responded after being disrupted by a left-wing activist during a well-attended event in South Carolina. DeSantis, who is expected to be the first Republican candidate to file paperwork for the state’s 2024 presidential primary, was speaking at the Philip T. Glennon Community Center in Tega Cay when the incident occurred.
While discussing President Joe Biden, DeSantis made a remark directed at him, suggesting that he should spend more time with his granddaughter in Arkansas and acknowledge her existence before concerning himself with other matters. However, as DeSantis was speaking, an LGBT activist unfurled a pride flag and began shouting at the governor. Unfazed, DeSantis chose to ignore the disruption, and security promptly intervened to handle the situation.
Once the individual was removed by security, the crowd erupted in cheers, and DeSantis pointed at the agitator, emphatically stating, “And they shouldn’t be worried about our children, either! We don’t want you indoctrinating our children! Leave our kids alone!”
The incident demonstrated DeSantis’ commitment to protecting children from what he perceives as indoctrination, which resonated with the audience. Shortly after the disruption, another attendee, identifying herself as a devoted Trump supporter, expressed her appreciation for DeSantis’ leadership and the impact of the event.
DeSantis thanked her for her heartfelt words and echoed her sentiments about the treatment President Trump received, citing the Russian collusion allegations as a disgrace and unconstitutional. However, he emphasized that the crucial question at hand is what actions they will take to address these issues. DeSantis pledged to end the weaponization of government and restore the country to the vision of its Founding Fathers. He assured the audience that their interests and the constitution would be his priority, highlighting the need for focus, discipline, and perseverance.
The event drew approximately 900 attendees, according to the local fire marshal, despite Tega Cay’s population of about 12,000. This enthusiastic turnout reflects the significant support and interest surrounding Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign as he continues to connect with voters across the country.
