His actions are a part of a larger plan to increase Democratic power in a state that has historically been associated with Republicans. In an effort to strengthen these organizations’ operational capacities and help Democrats advance significantly in the state, Soros has directed more than $3 million into at least five left-leaning organizations in Texas in the last year.
The Texas Majority PAC, a group that rose from obscurity to prominence in Texas politics, is one of the main beneficiaries of Soros’ financial backing. Once a mysterious organization, it has become more visible and is currently a publicly recognized entity. The Texas Majority PAC is currently run by former members of Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s dismal gubernatorial campaign staff, according to a Texas Tribune article. The organization was able to raise over $2.25 million the year before.
Katherine Fischer, the executive director of the Texas Majority PAC, emphasized the necessity of more money and employees in order to fulfill their mission of making Texas blue. She underlined the cooperative efforts being made with partners around the state to establish conducive circumstances for this political change. Financial records showed that George Soros has been the only contributor to the Texas Majority PAC, making up all of its $2.25 million in donations, through his Democracy PAC II and individual gifts.
Former Republican lawmaker Mayra Flores, the first woman of Mexican descent to hold a seat in the House of Representatives, has voiced her opinions regarding Soros’ involvement. According to her, he is making financial contributions in an effort to increase Democratic Party participation in 2024, with a focus on Hispanic voters who have historically supported the party. Flores thinks that Hispanic people are responding favorably to Republican policies that emphasize border security, economic power, and national priority.
In addition to the Texas Majority PAC, Soros has contributed financially to a number of other Texas organizations that aim to elect Democrats to state offices. Among the organizations to which these contributions have been made are CTX Votes, the Texas Organizing Project, the Dallas County Democratic PAC, and First Tuesday. With these calculated bets, Soros is demonstrating his dedication to changing Texas politics to better match Democratic goals and values.
