Liberals on X, formerly referred to as Twitter, showcased their frustration and contempt when a photograph of actor Woody Harrelson sporting a hat displaying his endorsement for Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. emerged on the internet.
Expressing their annoyance, liberal individuals criticized both the image and the actor for lending support to the anti-establishment opponent of Biden, who gained prominence through his skepticism toward COVID-19 pandemic protocols. Kennedy had also been recognized for his advocacy of liberal causes and his criticism of childhood vaccines.
Harrelson’s public endorsement of Kennedy appeared consistent, given the actor’s prior statements critiquing the United States’ response to the pandemic and COVID vaccines.
The photo originated from the Instagram account of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress Cheryl Hines on a Thursday morning. In the picture, Hines, who is married to Kennedy, was standing alongside Harrelson, who wore a “Kennedy 2024” cap in blue. Hines added a caption to the photo, reading, “Wonderful to see you, Woody. #friends #hats #rfkjr.”
Once the image made its way onto X, liberal users heavily criticized it through negative comments.
Senior producer of “Shark Tank,” Andrew Kimmel, shared the photo and commented, “We’ve lost Woody.”
A prominent leftist influencer known as “Liberal Lisa in Oklahoma” stated, “It’s official. After his problematic SNL opening monologue about Covid, now this. Woody Harrelson is no longer someone I support.”
Angela Belcamino, a well-known leftist user on X, emphatically declared, “Woody Harrelson has essentially ended his own reputation.”
Democrat social media strategist Devin Duke harshly criticized the actor, penning, “It’s truly disappointing to see Woody Harrelson aligning himself with anti-science views.”
Former Bill Clinton staff member Claude Taylor remarked, “This is truly disheartening. A good reminder that actors should not be seen as role models.”
A popular progressive account titled “Wu Tang is for the Children” posted, “If you were uncertain about Woody’s stance after his SNL monologue, this seals the deal.”
Numerous users made reference to Harrelson’s “Saturday Night Live” monologue from February, where he openly criticized the COVID-19 vaccine and government pandemic protocols. He cleverly couched his critique within a description of a hypothetical movie pitch he had encountered in 2019.
On air, Harrelson explained, “So here’s the plot: The largest drug cartels worldwide collaborate to purchase all media outlets and politicians, coercing everyone to remain confined within their homes. Individuals can only emerge if they consume the cartel’s drugs repeatedly.”
Concluding the monologue, the actor and ardent marijuana advocate added a personalized punchline, quipping, “I tossed that script away. I mean, who would believe such a ludicrous notion? Being compelled to use drugs? I willingly do that all day.”
