A man from Queens has been apprehended by police after they allege that he intentionally ignited a pit bull in the center of a neighborhood street. This incident has elicited widespread condemnation and has prompted an ongoing investigation.
The brutal act was documented on surveillance footage, which led to the arrest of the suspect, 29-year-old Isaiah Gurley, on Monday night. The occurrence occurred in South Ozone Park shortly before 5 a.m. on July 24. The man is captured on video dragging an unresponsive dog into the street, pouring a flammable liquid over it, and setting it ablaze before escaping the scene.
According to authorities, Gurley was identified by a passerby in the vicinity of the Queens Center Mall later that evening. He was reportedly still donning the maroon hoodie that was visible in the footage. Gurley was apprehended without resistance by the police, who promptly responded to the report.
He is currently being charged with numerous felonies, including aggravated animal cruelty, arson, negligent endangerment, and torturing an animal. Efforts are ongoing to ascertain whether the dog was alive at the time of its destruction. In order to ascertain the precise cause and time of death, a necropsy has been ordered.
