Authorities in San Antonio say that the killing took place on Wednesday.
A man in San Antonio, Texas, is said to have killed the thief after he tracked him down with an Apple AirTag.
The San Antonio Police Department told KHOU that the event happened Wednesday at a shopping center in the southeast part of the city. The truck’s owner put an Apple AirTag tracking device on it so he could keep track of where it was.
On Wednesday around 1:00 p.m., someone in north San Antonio called the police to report that their car had been stolen.
The truck’s owner used the AirTag that the cops gave him after the truck was stolen to follow the truck for almost 20 miles.
Officials say that the person accused of stealing a car didn’t know that the car he was trying to steal was being watched.
The cops found a lot of shells and two cars with holes in the windows from gunfire.
The suspect could be charged with murder, but the police are still thinking about what to do.
Officer Nick Soliz says that if your car is taken, you shouldn’t do anything on your own.
Soliz begged him not to take matters into his own hands if his car was stolen. This shows that the saying “it’s never safe” is true.
Apple has told Fox News Digital in the past that it works with the police to find stolen AirTags by pointing them to a recent update.
“AirTag was made to help people find their things. It wasn’t made to track people or other people’s things, and we highly disapprove of anyone using our products in a bad way. Since tracking people without their permission has been a problem for a long time, we took this issue into account when making AirTag. This is why the Find My network was made with privacy in mind, uses end-to-end encryption, and has the first proactive system to let you know if someone is watching you without your permission.
