Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney whose case against former President Donald Trump led to a historic arrest, got another threatening letter with some white powder in it, which caused a new security scare.
ABC News knows that this letter was found in the basement mailroom of 80 Centre Street around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sources for NBC News say that the letter sent to Bragg said something rude about the size of the district attorney. These same people also said that white powder and a picture of Trump and Bragg were in the mail. The drug was found to be safe by the authorities.
A person from Bragg’s office thanked the Emergency Service Unit of the New York Police Department and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection for responding quickly.
Bragg has gotten two more frightening letters with white powder in them in the last month. The New York Times said that a letter sent to Bragg said, “ALVIN: I AM GOING TO KILL YOU,” followed by 13 exclamation points. The drug in question was also thought to be safe in that case.
Bragg’s investigation into whether Trump paid hush money during the 2016 election campaign led to an arrest from a grand jury at the end of this month. Trump is the first president of the United States to ever be charged with a crime.
Last Monday, Trump flew to New York City to face charges of 34 felonies connected to falsifying business records. Trump says that during the months he has been running for president again, different investigations are being done on him by attorneys who are doing it for political reasons.
Bragg has been threatened with death, according to a complaint made this week by his lawyers to stop orders sent by House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) as part of the Trump probe.
In the claim, it says, “In one case, he got a package with a suspicious white powder and a note that said he was going to die.” Since Mr. Trump wrongly said he would go to jail on March 18, 2023, the District Attorney’s Office has gotten more than a thousand calls and emails, many of them threatening and based on race. But instead of criticizing these attacks on the District Attorney and the grand jury process, House Republicans are part of them.
To add insult to injury, Bragg’s case says that Trump “in particular” “has threatened New York officials with violent and racist vitriol.” The suit says that Trump called Bragg, who is black, a “SOROS BACKED ANIMAL,” and it also says that a Truth Social post shows Trump “threateningly” holding a baseball bat next to a picture of Bragg.
