On Friday, Republican Senator from Florida Marco Rubio stated he thinks the Senate leadership vote should be delayed until the contenders for the job are vetted for their “real [commitment] to fighting for the interests & values of the working Americans.”
According to a tweet from Rubio, “the Senate GOP leadership vote next week should be postponed.” First, we must ensure that the leaders we choose are willing to fight for the objectives and values of the working Americans (of every background) who helped us win crucial states like Florida.
Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley supported Rubio’s proposal and blasted leadership for planning a vote before the Senate contests were finalized.
Hawley, quoting Rubio, responded, “Exactly right.” If the Senate GOP were serious about getting things done, they wouldn’t be holding a leadership vote for the next Congress until after the election was over. There will be a runoff election for the Georgia Senate; are they trying to argue that this is irrelevant? Don’t revoke @HerschelWalker’s voting rights.
Politico reports that three Republican senators, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Mike Lee of Utah, and Rick Scott of Florida, have distributed a letter asking fellow GOP senators to delay the vote.
The letter is a warning shot across the bow of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his leadership team, who are hoping to be reelected for a second term.
The Republican senators are expected to cast their ballots on McConnell’s leadership on November 16. Among voters, only 8% have a positive opinion of McConnell, while 80% have an unfavorable one.
The national debt has increased by almost $20 trillion under McConnell’s leadership in the Senate. Illegal immigration has persisted, while real wages for American workers have not increased. It was in 2010 when Obamacare became law. Large financial institutions were bailed out in 2008, and social media platforms have been able to censor users without facing any legal ramifications. Dr. Anthony Fauci has been accused of lying twice to Congress but has faced no consequences.
