Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced she will resign from Congress, citing persistent tensions with President Donald Trump and her intention to avoid a divisive primary fight.
Her departure will be effective January 5, 2026, and the special election process in Georgia to fill her seat will commence shortly thereafter.
Greene, a prominent firebrand within the House Republican majority, said she made her decision to focus on “other avenues of public service.” She also referenced disagreements with Trump over transparency issues involving the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
The resignation reduces the GOP’s narrow House majority and adds uncertainty to Georgia’s upcoming special election timeline.
