A gunman opened fire in a crowded bar early Sunday on St. Helena Island, South Carolina, killing four individuals and wounding at least twenty others, officials said.
The attack occurred around 1 a.m. at Willie’s Bar & Grill, which was hosting hundreds of patrons when shots rang out. Many inside fled to nearby businesses and homes to escape the violence.
Deputies arriving on the scene found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds. Four victims were later pronounced dead, while others were rushed to area hospitals—some in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet named any suspects or revealed a motive. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and urging witnesses to come forward.
