Mayorkas said that the deaths of two migrants in Texas have left the agency “heartbroken.”

On Friday, the bodies of two migrants were recovered in a Texas railway cabin. This led Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to criticize the “callous” traffickers he blames. He said that the only thing on the thoughts of the traffickers is “making a profit.”

The DHS director said in a statement, “We are sorry to hear of yet another bad thing that happened to migrants trying to make the dangerous journey.”

After getting a 911 call saying that people were suffocating on the train, Border Patrol officials stopped it about three miles east of Knippa, Texas. The Uvalde Police Department says that fifteen people needed medical care. Two of the migrants were killed, five were taken to a hospital in San Antonio in a helicopter, and five more were sent to hospitals nearby with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Mayorkas thanked the Border Patrol and the HSI agents from ICE for their help. (ICE).

He promised that the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office will assist find the people who did this. Smugglers are cruel men who care only about making money.

In recent years, there have been a lot of deaths on or near the border. This month, eight individuals died when two boats used to smuggle drugs sank off the coast of Southern California.

In FY 2022, 856 migrants died, which was the most ever. 2018 was the year that border patrol agents talked to the most migrants ever.

The administration has told migrants several times not to make the dangerous trek north. Instead, they have urged migrants to use the government’s improved legal avenues to request asylum. Also, the “root causes” of the problem of people leaving Central America have been looked at.

Even though fewer persons crossed the border illegally in January and February, numerous people still tried to get into the nation without permission. Conservatives say that President Biden and his entourage are to blame.

Republicans in the House have been unhappy with how Mayorkas has handled the matter. There has been talking about impeaching the DHS director, and some Republicans, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy, have even sent in articles of impeachment.

Even though Mayorkas denied it, he suffered a hit when Raul Ortiz, the head of the Border Patrol, told Congress that DHS did not have “operational control” of the southern border. Mayorkas told lawmakers last year that DHS was in charge of the wall in all operational ways.

Republicans held several hearings at the border and in the region around it. The House Homeland Security Committee paid for this report so that it may look into “the direct link between President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas’ careless border policies and the unprecedented crisis at our Southwest border.”
