Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California and a former House Speaker, has questioned President Biden’s decision to have a staff BBQ at the White House while Israel is fighting Hamas rockets. McCarthy is from the state of California. McCarthy demanded that Vice President Biden address the American people and offered a “five-point plan” to assist Israel. Some of the points in the proposal include discovering and identifying American captives as well as blocking monies that have been given to Iran. He underscored how important it is to make it very clear that there would be repercussions for anybody who does damage to an American, and he emphasized that the United States should not deal with terrorists.
In reaction, the White House defended Vice President Biden’s involvement in supporting Israel and stated that the BBQ gathering had been planned in advance as a way to express gratitude to non-political staff members for their efforts.
McCarthy also advocated for battling Iran and resupplying Israel while slamming progressive members of the House. He was alluding to Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib’s views against Israel in a roundabout way when he made this statement.
McCarthy lambasted the members of the House GOP and House Democrats who voted to expel him last week in regard to the vacant position of speaker of the House, saying that they made a political choice rather than putting the interests of the United States of America first. He did not rule out the possibility of running for speaker again and said that he would do “whatever the House wants.”
The Republican Party in the House of Representatives is now split between Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan as their preferred choice for speaker of the house. The possibility of McCarthy coming back to the job is still up in the air.
