In a House vote on Friday, 25 Republicans opposed Republican Speaker candidate Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), determining whether he should become GOP House leader after 17 days without one. The representatives who voted against Rep. Jordan include: Carlos Giminez (R-FL), Don Bacon (R-NE), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), Drew Ferguson (R-GA), Kay Granger (R-TX), Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Jake Ellzey (R-TX), Jen Kiggans (R-VA), John James (R-MI), Tony Gonzales (R-TX), Vern Buchanan (R-FL).
Rep. Rutherford has attacked Jordan personally, pronouncing the election “over.” After voting against Jordan on Wednesday, Rep. Vern Buchanan attacked the Biden White House. Former House Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chair Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) said Rep. Kay Granger should lose her Appropriations Committee chairship for rejecting Jordan’s Speaker campaign. Banks says she should lose her gavel for blocking the most financially conservative House Speaker candidate.
